Digital detox anyone?

I am shocked to hear today that a four year old is under psychiatric treatment for an iPad addiction. The little girl has sadly become Britain's youngest known addict.

A recent poll showed more than half of parents let their kids use a smartphone or tablet, with one in seven allowing it for four or more hours a day.

Psychiatrist Dr Richard Graham, from Capio Nightingale Clinic in London, said there must be many more addicts of the same age. His clinic charges over $23,000 a month for a ‘digital detox programme’ to help wean patients off tablets and other digital devices. Some even spending 36-hour stretches online and operating up to 20 Facebook profiles.

Dr Graham said: ‘Don’t leave your iPad around because if you do, and children see all the pretty colours, they will want to use it too. They can’t cope and become addicted, reacting with tantrums and uncontrollable behaviour when they are taken away.’

There is actually a need for a digital detox clinic?  Again I am shocked!

Our four year old has his own tablet, but goes days without even picking it up, so I have no concerns with his usage.

They are a great device if used correctly. As with anything really.

Does your child have access to digital devices? Do you think they are a addictive?
